when you pull back a rubberband and are ready to shoot at your friend, you have put the rubberband in tension. Or when you tie your car to a tree and you gas the car you have just put that chain in tension.

How does this term apply to any of our class labs?
we used tension in the catapult lab when we used rubberbands to stretch our rubberbands and the elasticity in the rubberband will make it snap back and then that would launch the marshmellow from the catapult.
the other time we used tension was when we blew the balloon up with air. when we blew up the balloon it caused the balloon to expand and therefore causing tension on the balloon.
