Wiki-Wiki WORD: SUPERCLUSTER |
Definition: large groupings of smaller galaxy groups and clusters. |
|
ABOUT SUPERCLUSTERS:
Once thought to be the largest structures in nature, superclusters are now understood to be subordinate to enormous walls or sheets. These "walls or sheets" are sometimes called "super cluster complexes" and they can spand out to be a billion light-years in length. A light-year* is the distance that light can travel in one year. Super clusters themselves can spand out to several hundred million light-years.

SO WHAT??? SECTION: Studying "superclusters" is important to know when it comes to outer space and what is near or around us. We are studying this term because it goes with our Space/Solar System Unit. Superclusters are common when talking about outer space. Many of our large bodies in space are superclusters.
