wiki Word: pore spaces

Definition:

The spaces within a rock body that are unoccupied by solid material. Pore spaces include spaces between grains, fractures, vesicles, and voids formed by dissolution.

A example of pore spaces is when you put some rocks in a bottle or a bowl you see the spaces between the rocks, they are called pore spaces, you can find pore spaces anywhere. Or you can think of it this way if you have big grains you have big pore spaces if you have small grains you would have pore spaces.

We need to know about pore spaces because say if we didn't find any water on Mars' surface then we could take the experiment underground and try to find water between the pore spaces in the sand. And so we could know what scientist are talking about when they start to talk about the pore spaces or the spaces between rocks.
