Wiki Word: Plastic/Plasticity

pronunciation: pla-sti-ci-ty

Define: Plasticity or plastic is when a state of matter is somewhere between a liquid and a solid.

Plasticity is a state of matter that occures between a liquid and a solid. It is the property of a solid body whereby it undergoes a permanent change in shape or size when subjected to a stress exceeding a particular value, called the yield value.

Thus saying that this state of matter is "bendable" but not a liquid

You should know some things about plstic!!!!!!

- plastic can be used to create toys, tools, containers, and many other houshold items..

- over time when you apply pressure to plastic it bends with  the object that is applying the pressure

- have you ever noticed that when you sit on a "kiddy" playground and you are "little" to big that the slide ends up denting in underneth you.

( the slide bends because it is plastic and plastic bends when pressure is applied!!!!!!)

* will but it moves EXTREMELY slowley!!!!!!!!!!!!!

< this shows that when plastic stetches it comes back to its natural shape and size

How does this term apply to any of our class labs?

When we worked with catipults we had to stretch a rubber band ~the rubber band once stretched had to go back to its origional shape and form just like how something with plasticity goes back to its origional form.
