wiki Word: Period |
Definition: In the Periodic Table, a period is a horizontal row |
In chemistry a period is a row that goes horizontally across the table. a period is the opposite of a group which is a vertical row. Periods are also used in electronic configuration.

The numbers on the top left going down are the periods. |
We studied this term for good reasons just like the first inventors of the periodic table. They used periods to organize the elements. They saw patterns in the elements so they put these patterns in order in periods. Also periods are used in electronic configuration. The period number is the first number in a configuration. For example in 3s2 the number 3 is the period number. Periods are needed to know the patterns in the elements and to properly use elctronic configuation.
