wiki Word: Molucule

Definition: Two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds

A more technical definition is; a sufficiently stable electrically neutral group of at least two atoms in a definate arrangement held together by strong chemical bonds. Something more basic is; a molecule is basically a certain arrangement of atoms, held together with chemical bonds, that form a more complex substance. Almost all substances are made of molecules and not just one element. For example; water is a molecule. Water is a molecule that is formed by a chemical bond of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

These are some models of molecules.

A molecule is just an arrangement of atoms that have bonded. We need to know about these because we are studying the bonding of atoms because of their valence electrons and the octet rule. The bonding of atoms creates a molecule which makes it a new substance. For example we have 26 letters in the alphabet but we have thousands of words just like we have about 100 elements but thousands of substances. Most of these substances are molecules and not just one type of atom. If we did not know about molecules we could not know what common things are made of like; water and carbon dioxide and what more complex things are made of like heart tissue and computers. Molecules are the second smallest and basic particle and if we didn't understand this all we would see was just random clusters of atoms.
