Definition: One of two or more atoms having the same atomic number but different mass numbers.

 

Isotopes are atoms that have the same nuber of protons but have a different number of nuetrons. Isotopes have a different mass number, because they have the same number of protons but a different number of nuetrons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are studying this term because isotopes help us find reactivity. It dosn't have a effect in chemical bonding, but it isotopes have different masses than there original atom. We can test to find isotopes in rocks to find what the atmosphere was like when it was formed and things like that.
