wiki Word:   Inertia

PRONOUNCIATION KEY:  [in-ur-shuh, -]

Definition:

The tendency of a object to resist acceleration; the tendency of a object at rest to remain at rest or of a object in straight line motion to stay in motion in a straight line unless acted on by an outside force.

What that means is that  an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an unbalanced force. So, picture this, you have a skate stoped on the hill. It will stay there until you push it because you are they unbalanced force, same with the fact if the board was moving. The skate board is gonig down the hill and you are riding it when you see a big rock ahead you slow down then turn to get out of its way. Both of those things happened becuase you are agian the unbalanced force.

Inertia applies to some of our labs because when we made rocket cars they were effected by inertia while they were going to the meter marks and even the marble lab  had to with inertia becuase the marbles went down the slope and we had to see how far the went before they stopped.

I used http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/inertia for the pronunciation key and i used this one http://www.thefreedictionary.com/inertia  for the definiton but changed a body to object as to better understand the definition.
