PRONOUNCIATION KEY:  (hee lee oh SEN trik)

The heliocentric Theory is the theory created by Nicolaus copernicus that the sun is at the center of the solar system not the earth.

Heliocentric is derived from the Greek words, helio, meaning sun, and centric meaning center. The theory states that the Earth and all the other planets revolve around the sun.

We are studying the Termm centric to learn why it was a necessary chenge to change it from Ptolemy's theory to Copernicus's theory. It is important to know why this is the theory that we believe in now. We should know why we use this theory and not geocentric.
