GROUP/FAMILY

A vertical column of elements in the periodic table. Elements in a group often share chemical properties and physical properties.

You can find a group/family very easily, just look at a periodic table like the one below and the groups are in the vertical rows. (Top to bottom) Many times groups a periodic table share chemical and physical properties. Things that are included in a group are often alike in their physical and chemical properties. For this reason they are sometimes referred to as 'families'. The types of things that an element may have common in a group include; the number of electron in the outer most shell, reactiveness, density, state at room temperature, and whether they are a metal, metalliod, or nonmetal to name a few! There are 18 different groups on the periodic table, one for each row.

(Groups are going up and down, or vertical)
