Wiki Word: ~Force~ |
Definition: A force is a push or a pull causing the movement of an object.

|
A force is a push or a pull that causes the movement of an object. Some examples of forces are gravity, friction, drag, and many more. A force can be balanced or unbalanced. When an object's forces are balanced the object will not move, or if it IS ALREADY in motion the object will stay at the same speed and traveling in the same direction, until an opposing force acts upon it. If two forces are UN-balanced the object will continue in the direction of the highest opposing force. It is the unbalanced forces that create motion. The speeding up, slowing down, or changing direction of the motion of an object, is also be known as acceleration. Motion is the change of an object's position according to a refrence point. A refrence point can be anything, from a bike you are on to a parked car. The net force will determine the total amount of force acting upon an object at any specific time. Some examples of the effects of forces are you moving foward on rollar skates, or a game of tug-a-war. You can never go a day without experiencing a force so where ever you go "May the force be with you!!"

This term applies to our Air Rocket Car Lab and our Water Bottle Rocket Lab. This is because in each of these labs, we tested the forces of friction, air resistance, and air pressure. We have also explored unbalanced and balanced forces in our air rocket car lab. Also forces can apply to all things in life. For example a pencil falling is an example of the force of gravity, or a rubber band stretching due to elasticity. We have explored forces in almost all of our labs. That is because forces affect all objects. For example we always have gravity, friction, and air resistance; even if we don't want them to, they will always affect the outcome of our experiment and test findings. Unless we use a anti-gravity machine, we can't get rid of these forces. We will ALWAYS have forces and we can never get rid of them. |

Remember that unbalanced forces "initiate" or begin motion for an object that is at rest, and they change the motion an object that is already in motion by speeding it up, slowing it down, or changing its direction. Bothe the initiation of motion and the changing of motion caused by an unbalanced force is called acceleration. Otherwise, Kimmy, this is an excellent page! Thank you! ~ Mrs. Flynt
