Ellipse or elliptical are aslo used in mathamatics.Was first studied by Menaecchmus and given its present name by Apolloius. The two fixed points are called foci (plural of focus). Johannes Kepler explained that the orbits along which the planets travel around the sun are ellipses in his first Law of Planetary Motion. Later explained by Sir Isaac Newton as a corollary of his Law of Universal Gravitation. An ellipse can be streched along an axis, in or out of the plane of an ellipse, and it will still be an ellipse. Also in 1705 Halley showed that the comet,which was later named after him, moved in an elliptical orbit around the sun.

 So What? You may ask yourself why this words are important.The answer is that you obviously need to know it if its on the list Mrs.Flynt made for wiki words. You also need to know this word because if you want a career in science or mathematics you need to know these words to be succesful in your field. Also since were studying about the earth and how it tilts on its axis, ellipse or elliptical are perfect words that go with the unit. Now in math class if your teacher ask what it mean then you'll what they mean,thanks to sceince. Were also doing  our moon obervations so we can better understand the moon. Those are reasons why ellipse and elliptical are important to know.
