Dwarf Planet |
Definition:A celestial body with enough gravity to shape itself into a sphere but not large enough to be considered a true planet. |
|
A dwarf planet is a celestial body that is in orbit around the Sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium shape, has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit, and is not a in orbit around something(a satalite).
Currently there are 3 official dwarf planets in are solar system, Ceres (which located in the asteroid belt is still considered by some to be an asteroid),Pluto ,and Eris A.K.A. UB313. Earth's moon is big enough to be considered a dwarf planet but it is not considered one becouse planets can not be satalite.

visable below dwarf planets are mush smaller than even some of the smallest planets like Earth.

|
We are stuying dwarf planets becouse we are studying space and planets are part of space. To call a dwarf planet a planet is like calling a pebble a boulder or a hill a mountain.
