wiki Word: Balanced Force |
Definition: When all forces acting on an object equal zero Newtons (N). |
Facts, Details, and Examples: A force is a push or pull. A force can give energy to an object, causing the object to start moving, stop moving, or change directions. A balanced force occurs when all forces acting on an object are equal. An example of this would be a book at rest on a desk. The force of the table pushing up on the book is equal to the force of gravity pulling down on the book. |

In the Classroom: Balanced forces were everyhwere in our labs. While studying Air Rocket Cars we learned that when the car was at rest or when it was moving at a constant speed, the forces acting upon it were equal. We also learned about balanced forces while doing the Marble Power Lab. Before launching the marbles, the forces were equal and when the marble stopped, we learned that the unbalanced forces were balancing themselves. |
