wiki Word: AIR PRESSURE

Definition:  The force exerted by air, whether compressed or unconfined, on any surface in contact with it.

When air molocules colide with the surfaces inside a inclosed area, they release a pressure. The amount of air pressure depends on the amount of collisions between the molocules and the suface of a inclosed object. There are two ways to increase air pressure. One is to put more molocules into the inclosed area or reducing the amount of space. The other is to increase the temperature, so then the air molocules move faster and bounce off the inclosed area more. If you wanted to decrease the air pressure then you would do the opposite of the ways to increase air pressure. Air pressure can be measured by a barometer.

The little dots are air molocules. The more there are the higher the air pressure and if you add heat you also increase the air pressure.

This is a barometer. A barometer measures air pressure (meter=to measure, baro=pressure).

For our first lab, we used the term air pressure. We launched water bottle rockets. To launch it we had to pump air pressure into it. We pumped it to a high air pressure so then when we released the air pressure it would go up.
