wiki Word: Virgo Supercluster

Definition: A supercluster, or a collection of stars, galaxies, and dark matter clumped together.

Many people don't know what a supercluster is and even less know how big they are. Superclusters are big groups of millions of star clusters, planet, and galaxy. After the Big Bang theory, stars atarted getting attracted to each other, then pulled more clumps of stars toward them. Then the galaxies started to group together and formed superclusters. This was how galaxies were formed and why they aren't evenly distributed. Superclusters are about 5% of the observable part of the universe. The Virgo Supercluster is one of 10 million of those superclusters and 60 million light years away. It has about 250 big galaxies and 2000 small ones that fill the supercluster. Its diameter is 200 million light years long. Virgo Supercluster's mass is 1015 solar masses. The Virgo Supercluster is one of the biggest spirals locally with the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxyin it.

Each one of those bright dots is a star and they all have their own galaxy.

these are galaxies

SO WHAT??? SECTION: Why are we studying this term? Why do you need to understand this word to be sucessful in science? How does this term apply to any of our class labs or the real world?

We are studying this in class because we need to know what our universe is made of and how it functions. We need to know how big space really is and the Virgo Supercluster can help us do that becuase we are in it. Scientists are thinking of ways to get satellites and probes farther than our galaxy and we need to know about Superclusters.

How to Remember the Word: I remember this word becuase Virgo ryhmes with whoa and I always have to say whoa when I think of the number of stars and galaxies in the Virgo Supercluster.

or

Superclusters have lots of stars,

and many planets like Mars.

There are so many galaxies,

It would take longer to travel than overseas.
