Mars Exploration Rover
opportunityOpportunity is the second of the Two MER rovers.Opportunity landed at Eagle Crater on Januarr 25, 2004.Opportunity was considered "little miss perfect" by NASA because it almost never had any problems. Opportunity found proof that liquid water did once run on mars because the rover found hematite, jerosite, and ripples on the surface of mars.Opportunity also landed right in front of some exposed strata. |
spiritSpirit was the first MER rover to touch land on mars. Its landing area was Gusev Crater on January 4, 2004, three weeks before its sister, Opportunity. It has been working for over fifteen times longer than NASA expected.Spirit's main objective was to prove if liquid water existed on Mars. The first rock Spirit investigated was named Adirondack, but it was hardened lava, not a sedimentary rock like NASA hoped for. |

Relation to classThese rovers were the main topic in a movie our class watched at the begining of the school year; it was called roving mars. These rovers were the topic that started our mars section. The rovers also taught us alot about the search for life and water on mars. They also helped us learn about current events, like opportunity's robotic arm starting to stall after 4 years of operating. |
