Wiki Word: Gaint Impactar Theory |
Definition: The now dominant theory that states the moon was formed by the Earth being hit by a mars sized body called Theia. |
|
The Gaint Impact Theory, also known as the big splash
theory, basicaly states that the moon was formed when a mars-like
body called Theia hit earth while it was still forming and a chunk of
Earth(and Theia) broke off and formed the moon. This is the
theory mainly except by scientist. Evidence that this was the cause
was found in the rock samples(they found oxygen isotopes almost
the same as Earth)found on the apollo missons. Dr. William K.
Hartmann and Dr. Donald R. Davis were the first to propose this
theory. Heres a helpful way to remember this word!

This theory explains the formation of the moon and the moon is extremely important. The moon causes the tides and provides slight light at night. It also causes lunar eclipse. This is a theory and could be disproved! It is only the one mostly excepted by scientist.
