Deep impact Mission

Definition: a space probe launched by  NASA about three years ago to study the composition of the interior of a comet.

On july 4,2005 was the day that Deep impact spacecraft arrived at comet tempel 1. This was a NASA mission sent to anwser questions on comets. This was a 330 million dollar mission. It was a delta two mission and last three months and twenty two days. The deep impact mission was not the first to a comet. There were two earlier missions Giotto and Stardust but these two missions just flew by and took pictures. the deep impact  was the first to eject material from a comet's surface. Deep impact is no longer on the comet tempel 1. It flew by earth on December 31 2007 going to another mission. with purposes to study extrasolar planets and comet Hartley 2.

This mission was created to anwser questions about comets. Questions were being asked like what makes up the composition of the nucleus, what is the comet made up of on its inside, and where the comet orginated in its formation. Scientist thought by anwsering these questions it would reveal the formation and structure of a comet. This mission indeed did anwser a lot of our questions. Now we know much more about comets than we did five years ago.
