Mission was to see if life existed on mars.  Viking 1 was launched on August 20, 1975, and arrived at Mars on June 19, 1976.  On July 20, 1976, the Viking 1 lander separated from the Viking 1 orbter and touched down at Chryse Planitia.  On web site information and pitchers of surface

Nasa's first successful mission where a lander actually landed, well, successfully and could send pictures back to us. Each spacecraft consisted of an orbiter and a lander. when the time was right, they separated and descended to the surface. More info, statistics and dates at the site to the left.

Viking 1 was launched on August 20, 1975 and arrived at Mars on June 19, 1976.Viking 2 was launched September 9, 1975 and entered Mars orbit on August 7, 1976. The orbiters imaged the whole surface of Mars. The missions was supposed to take pictures, characterize the structure of the atmosphere and surface, and to also look for life.

viking 1 + 2 missions james P                 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_program                         This tells about the mission and how the rovers operate.  It is pretty long and contains a lot of information.  I researched the site on March 18.

I think that we should split up the work between vik. 1 and 2. Also I think that we need to make a seperate page for each 1 and 2 ( 1 person per page ), (one person for vik. 1, one for vik. 2, and 1 for the main link page / title/ homepage.

 William.m

We should make 2 links one to landers and one to orbiters from our mane page

 william m

Jeffrey L lets just do one page-viking 1 and 2
 Jeffrey Lamothe

What else should we add to our page?

It looks good, but I think we need another subject on it like more about the data collected or something

james pheneger    should we just use 1 draft since it has info for both lander and orbiter? and i dont see an orbiter link

william walker  the orbiter is linked from the first draft (press orbter 1 and 2)

james - i still  think we should just have 1 draft.
