How does this term apply to any of our labs in class?

"Equi" is part of the word equilibrium, which means equal balance. Nature wants to be in equilibrium, or equal balance. In our water bottle rocket lab, we disrupted equilibrium by pumping air into our rocket. This created high air pressure inside. Because nature wants to be in equilbrium, the air wants to flow from high to low air pressure to even things back out again. Thus, the more air we pump inside, the more we disrupt equilibrium and the more potential energy we create. That potential energy is changed to kinetic energy when we release the bottle rockets.
